This is a project where I am utilizing original and found photography; pen + ink drawings; photomontage; and the cyanotype process to re-interpret the Tarot and its symbolism in a loose narrative form.
Most of the found imagery I incorporate into this series comes from antique negatives purchased at estate sales and auctions. The “found photography” aspect is important to me with this project specifically because the photographs point back to a liminal space and a visual language that outplaces the intervention of the artist.
When I scan these negatives, the figures that appear are completely decontextualized from their original meanings. The people that appear are ghosts in their own way - distorted impressions of those who lived before. It seems like a good thing to allow them to tell new stories.
